  • Recreational centres

Pub, club, hotel, restaurant or leisure centre; whatever the setting, your customers’ experiences can make or break your reputation — and your business — so you have to get it right. Of course, a host of factors contribute to a venue’s success, but you can be sure that keeping drains and sewers out of sight and mind is one of them.

In this industry, there are two main potential problem areas. Firstly, the public have a knack for putting items down the loo that the system is not designed to cope with — wipes, nappies, sanitary products, packaging, and worse. These items can cause blockages. Secondly, catering facilities on site will increase the risk of drains being prone to a build up of fat, oil and grease (FOG) — another common reason for system malfunctions.

With all that risk, it is worth knowing that you can call on a drainage partner like UKDN Waterflow (LG) for expert advice and practical help when you need it.

Why choose UKDN Waterflow (LG)?

Simple. We’re flexible. Select any or all of our services: drain mapping and CCTV survey to assess the condition of your wastewater assets; preventative maintenance and cleansing of pipes at agreed intervals; repair of damaged pipes (with clever, no mess, no-dig technology where possible); and emergency call outs. On top of that, we manage clean water issues too.

In fact, we think we offer everything you could possibly want from a drainage partner — including best value.

Radar survey reduces downtime

When a children’s water attraction at Gheluvelt Park was closed because of a tank ruptured, the pressure was on to get it back up and running before the summer holidays.

FM company Place Partnership called in UKDN for a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey. Place’s Andy Wood said: “Without [the survey], we would have had to dig a number of trial holes, which risked damaging underground structures, would have taken more time, and would have probably increased costs.”

Hotel stays one step ahead

To avoid guests having to wade through puddles during heavy rain, one busy hotel asked UKDN to make sure its drainage system was operating fully at all times.

Using minimal equipment to keep noise and disruption down, we cleared the slots and cleaned associated carrier drains with high pressure jetting gear, before removing the resultant flushed debris from interceptors. By monitoring the degradation rate and adjusting the timing of the maintenance, we were able to reduce our planned visits from quarterly to 6-monthly — much to the delight of the hotel management.
