Project: Culvert CCTV survey
Customer: Cheshire East Borough Council
Sector: Local Authority
Location: Kidsgrove, Staffordshire
The challenge
UKDN Waterflow undertook surveys of five storm water culverts in and around the Kidsgrove area on the Staffordshire border, providing detailed reporting to engineers on behalf of Cheshire East Borough Council.
Investigations were carried out over several days with a three man technical services team handling the large bore 900mm culverts, and a mobile CCTV crew from Stockport using the latest Ipek mainline CCTV crawler unit to provide the very best high resolution footage.
Access to the culverts was through triangular ‘Hartlid’ covers leading to brick manholes and catchpits. Confined Spaces access, dye testing and sonar tracing were all used to determine depth flow and direction of the culverts.
The culverts, including one measuring 1.2 kilometres, totalled over three kilometres in length and were of concrete, brick and twinwall plastic construction.
The solution
Detailed reports were issued for each of the storm water culverts including levelling surveys and topographical information to assist the client in accurately modelling the area. This is critical when calculating flow capacity, and allows us to create an accurate and detailed programme of immediate repairs and preventative improvement.
