A potentially serious blockage in a foul drain was nipped in the bud thanks to a timely call to an insurance company and a rapid response by UKDN Waterflow (LG) Ltd.
Glyn and Rose Mycock, from Stoke-on-Trent, in Staffordshire, alerted their home insurance provider after their kitchen sink started to drain much more slowly than usual.
“I realised there must have been a problem with the drain leading from my kitchen so I called my insurance company, which said it could help,” said Mr Mycock.
“As my no claims bonus wasn’t going to be affected, we accepted the offer.”
The insurance company called in UKDN Waterflow (LG), which sent a team of drainage engineers to investigate the problem on the same day.
A CCTV drainage survey revealed the cause of the problem – a blockage on the drainage system several metres from the house. The issue was, the blockage was under their neighbour’s garden.
Mr Mycock said: “I thought that the UKDN Waterflow drainage engineers would wash their hands of it, so to speak, and say they couldn’t help any further, because the blockage was not under our property. But that’s not what happened.
“They pointed out the situation to my neighbour, and asked permission to clear the blockage. There was no charge to them, it just meant our problem could be solved as quickly as possible.
“The drain unblocking job didn’t take very long. But the UKDN Waterflow (LG) people went the extra mile for us. It made total sense to just get the job done, but I could imagine some companies not being flexible.”
The blockage could be cleared with a blast of the powerful water jetting equipment carried on UKDN Waterflow (LG) drainage maintenance vans.
Mr Mycock, a retired vehicle leasing worker, said the prompt action meant that both they and their neighbour did not suffer potentially worse problems with their drainage pipes.
“I know who to call now, if I have a drainage problem not covered by my insurance policy,” said Mr Mycock. “Not that I want to need to do that for a long time to come.”
