Dedicated Redhill team deliver as floods hit Surrey

Flooded UKDN depot

Our Redhill base was overwhelmed by flood water on December 24th.

But, whilst police helicopters and the fire brigade evacuated residents in the neighbouring areas our dedicated local team ensured no disruption to our customer services, and managed to complete all scheduled jobs whilst sandbagging the offices and arranging recovery of the two vehicles under four feet of flood water.

The team turned up on Christmas Eve to find two vans submersed underwater and the entrance more or less cut off, at the base which sits in a dip next to the London to Brighton railway line.

Redhill Base team members Kieron Collip and Tasiana Thomas deserve much praise for taking great ownership on the day, arranging recovery of the vehicles, sandbagging the entrance to the building, and communicating with customers, engineers and staff. And they still managed to keep the business going and complete all scheduled jobs.

Kieron commented “I turned up to find the yard at least four feet underwater, a police helicopter overhead and the mobile home park next door being evacuated by boat by the fire brigade.

I made my way carefully around the yard edge to the building entrance to get in and then opened the doors at the back so we could get on with sorting out the mess.

It was the busiest Christmas Eve I’ve ever experienced, but we worked as a team and got everything sorted.

Most importantly all of our customer jobs for the day were completed in time for Christmas. We didn’t want to let anyone down.

There was never any risk for us, just a lot of water to deal with!”.

Nick Harris, UKDN Waterflow’s CEO commented “The team at Redhill showed their mettle on a testing day on Christmas Eve. It’s people like Kieron and Tasiana that make this company great. Their commitment to our customers and the business helps set us apart from other water and wastewater infrastructure providers.”
