Case Study – Slip lining supports failing brick arch in London Underground

A failing brick arch drain in a major LUL station was at risk of failure when planned engineering works were planned to be carried out.

UKDN Waterflow were asked to design a solution, and introduced an innovative combination of slip lining the 300m run and subsequently filling the annulus with shingle. Following cleaning of the pipe during engineering hours to facilitate the pull through of the new perforated pipe, a possession was booked to complete the works.

In preparation, numerous trials were carried out to perfect the shingle installation method and ensure the void between the new pipe and the original failing pipe was fully filled. In the possession the works were completed on time and in programme, enabling the subsequent engineering works to proceed without the further disruption to passengers that a full excavation of the drain would have required.
